The Story

Unbound is a declaration of release, the moment when everything held beneath the surface can no longer be contained. Fiery oranges, burning reds and luminous yellows surge through the composition with an unstoppable force, breaking beyond the darkness that once sought to suppress them.

The heavily textured black forms speak of trauma and the weight of what has been endured. Yet they no longer dominate. Light and colour push through, around and beyond them, transforming the darkness into something that has been survived rather than something that still holds power.

There is an almost volcanic energy within the work: raw, fierce and alive. It reflects the strength found not simply in enduring, but in reclaiming the self that existed beneath it all. Unbound is the moment of breaking free, an eruption of courage, identity and power that refuses to be contained.

Although rooted in my own journey, the painting remains open to the experiences of others. It speaks to anyone who has felt constrained by their past and discovered that the force needed to move forward was already burning within them.
