The Story

Unextinguished is a reflection of the enduring light that remains within us, even in our darkest moments. It speaks of resilience, not as something loud or triumphant, but as the quiet determination to keep going when hope feels distant.

Created through many layers of oil paint, the work carries a rich, textured surface where darker passages give way to luminous areas of light. Rather than concealing the layers beneath, each mark becomes an essential part of the story, reminding us that healing is shaped not by erasing the past, but by allowing it to become part of who we are.

At its heart, Unextinguished is about the truth that our inner light can never be completely extinguished. It may be obscured by grief, hardship or uncertainty, but it continues to exist beneath the surface, waiting for the moment it can begin to shine once more. It is a quiet reminder that strength often survives long before we recognise it in ourselves.

Although inspired by my own journey, Unextinguished is intentionally open to interpretation. It invites each viewer to find their own meaning within its atmosphere, offering space for reflection, hope and the reassurance that even the smallest ember can become a guiding light.
