The Story
Released captures the instant restraint gives way. What has been held, bound and contained can no longer remain so; the tension breaks and light surges outward with an almost physical force.
Dark, heavily textured passages surround the work, creating a sense of weight and restriction. From within them, layers of red, gold and luminous cream erupt into the space, as though an energy that has been compressed and restrained is suddenly breaking free.
The light does not arrive from somewhere beyond the painting. It comes from within, pushing through the darkness, expanding beyond what once contained it and carrying with it a powerful sense of movement and release.
Released is about that moment of liberation: when the bonds finally break, restriction falls away, and everything that has been held back is suddenly free to expand.
A Moment With the Work
Spend a moment with the painting and allow your eye to move towards the intense light at its centre. Notice how the cooler blues and softer atmospheric passages meet the deeper reds, shadow and heavily textured areas surrounding them.
From a distance, the light appears to break outward through the composition; up close, layers of colour and texture reveal the tension beneath the surface. As the light around the painting changes, different passages emerge and recede.
Released invites you to experience that moment when something once contained can no longer be held, when restraint gives way and energy is finally allowed to move freely.
